During a quiet season of isolation, playful scribbles and the timeless words of Rumi helped me reconnect with creativity and led to an unexpected book of whimsical drawings.

A special time for me was teaching young children art in Miami at the Metropolitan Art Museum. One highlight for me was meeting Gloria Vanderbilt when she was promoting her book about Collage.

In 1987, a group of Washington Islanders traveled to Iceland to reconnect with their heritage, visit relatives, and experience the land their ancestors once called home. It continues to be an inspiration for me.

In 1960, while a student at UWM, I had the unforgettable experience of meeting Eleanor Roosevelt during her visit to our dorm, Kenwood Hall. Her wisdom, grace, and insights left a lasting impression that inspired my continued admiration for her advocacy and leadership.

"The Littlest Angel" was written by Charles Tazewell and illustrated by Katherine Evans, a summer resident of Washington Island. I had the privilege of spending an afternoon with her when I was a teenager, and it remains a cherished memory.

I am working with Mandalas, or circle drawings in the month of November. It is a great art process for relieving stress, meditation and having fun.

With the upcoming November elections drawing nearer, I am reminded of an article I found in the Door County Advocate, Letters to the Editor, 1894, describing a political meeting held in my grandfather Ted’s old barn.
